PICO Thinks Beyond the Brief to Create Experiences Beyond the Booth

In the past, exhibitions may have been seen simply as spaces for displaying products. Today, however, the role of the booth has changed significantly. Brands are no longer competing solely on visual design. They are competing to create experiences that make people want to step inside, spend time with the brand, and remember what they experienced long after the event ends.

For Pico (Thailand) PCL, a booth is therefore not the final destination of the process. It is one element of a broader brand communication strategy that brings together strategy, creativity, technology, and audience engagement.

With more than 45 years of experience in Thailand and as part of PICO Group, with a network spanning 37 cities worldwide, the company has expanded beyond simply designing and building exhibition spaces. Its approach has evolved toward creating comprehensive Brand Experiences from strategy and design to engagement and extending brand impact beyond the event itself.

“If You Only Deliver What the Client Asks For, You’re Just Breaking Even.”

Mr. Chayaphol Kalapaphongse, Chief Operating Officer, Pico (Thailand) PCL, believes that a team’s responsibility does not end with fulfilling the brief. The real value comes from looking beyond it.

“If you can only deliver what the client asks for, you’re just breaking even. But if you can think beyond what they ask for, that becomes the advantage that sets us apart.”

This philosophy means that every PICO project begins not with the question of how to build a booth, but with understanding what the brand wants to communicate, what kind of experience visitors should receive, and what return the investment should ultimately generate.

Once the true objective is understood, design becomes more than making a space look attractive. It becomes the process of transforming a brand concept into an experience that people can see, feel, interact with, and remember.

When a Booth Alone Is No Longer Enough

Although PICO grew from the Exhibition business, the company now recognizes that participating in an exhibition can no longer rely on spatial design alone.

Content creation, Digital Experience, Activation, Interactive Media, as well as the use of AI and data to better understand visitors, have become part of experience design. These elements help encourage people to spend more time with a brand and continue conversations even after the event has ended.

The booth is therefore only the starting point. What matters more is creating engagement throughout the visitor journey.

The more deeply people engage with a brand, the greater the opportunity to create lasting awareness, stronger connections, and a better return on investment.

Great Creativity Must Be Made Real

Another principle PICO places strong emphasis on is the connection between creativity and execution.

Technology and AI may make it faster to generate visuals and concepts, but visual appeal alone is not enough if an idea cannot be produced, installed, or delivered within real-world constraints of time, budget, and safety.

For this reason, Creative, Project Management, Marketing, and Partners work together from the early stages of a project. Every idea is considered alongside its constructability, cost management, and installation timeline.

PICO believes that the best creative idea is not one that exists only on a screen or on paper. It is one that can ultimately be transformed into a real experience when the doors open.

Project Success Must Be a Win for Everyone

Beyond creating experiences for visitors, PICO believes that project success must also create value for every party involved.

The “Win-Win-Win” philosophy has long been part of the company’s approach. Clients should achieve their brand objectives. The company should be able to deliver work to the required standards. Partners and teams should also receive appropriate returns, allowing everyone to grow together over the long term.

This philosophy is reflected in the management of onsite teams, particularly for large-scale projects with tight installation schedules.

PICO plans manpower and support teams in advance to prevent excessive workloads from falling on a single group, reduce safety risks, and maintain quality through to final delivery.

For PICO, a successful result should never come at the expense of any one individual or team.

A Good Experience Must Create Sustainable Value

Sustainability is another area that PICO continues to integrate into its operations — from selecting reusable materials and designing to reduce waste, to transforming exhibition vinyl into bags and choosing more environmentally friendly materials.

However, the company sees Sustainability as more than an environmental issue. It also means creating a working system in which everyone can grow together including clients, teams, and partners.

When all parties benefit, the business can move forward more sustainably and securely over the long term.

Ultimately, for PICO, participating in an exhibition is not simply about building the most visually impressive booth. It is about creating experiences that enable brands to communicate meaningfully with people, generate engagement that can continue beyond the event, and deliver value worthy of the investment.

Because when you think beyond the brief, a booth becomes more than a space for displaying products.

It becomes the starting point of a relationship between a brand and its people and another step toward sustainable brand growth.
