Introducing 4 + 1 Co-organizing Chairmen of Architect’23, who collaborate to share knowledge on architectural fields in all aspects.
The upcoming Architect’23 is the first time that architects from various fields have collaborated. The four representatives from the Thai Association of Architects (ASA, TIDA, TALA, and TUDA), as well as a representative from the Architect Council of Thailand (ACT), are collaborating to elevate the standard of this year’s exposition based on the success of Architect’22.
One of the most important aspects of Architect’23 is its 35th anniversary. Mr. Chana Sumpalung, president of The Association of Siamese Architects Under Royal Patronage (ASA), began the grandeur of the event by uniting all fields of architecture and the Architect Council of Thailand (ACT) to be one of co-organizing chairmen of Architect’23. Let’s get to know them all now.
“Build architecture for users’ happiness”
Puiphai Khunawat, a representative from ASA
Puiphai Khunawat is a co-founder of Creative Crews with over ten years of experience. She began her design career in Singapore with WOHA, Asia’s leading studio. When her knowledge had matured like Dry-Aged meat, she returned to co-found WOHA (Thailand), which was later renamed Somdoon Architects. Puiphai and Ekkachan Eiamananwattana decided to establish Creative Crews in 2016 through a variety of forms of work ranging from architecture, interior architecture, landscape architecture, community and urban design.
Creative Crews has contributed a wide range of works including FYI Center office building, Modena Hotel in Khlong Toei area, Bank of Thailand Learning Center, and CLASSROOM MAKEOVER FOR THE BLIND.
AHSA, a farm stay built from old wood in Mae Chan District, Chiang Rai, must be recognized as one of the most outstanding works. It is one of the award-winning modern architectural works that should be published, organized by The Association of Siamese Architects Under Royal Patronage (ASA) under the ASA Emerging Architecture Award 2019 Project, which was announced in April 2020.
“Brain Storming” from team members was used to determine a clear conceptual framework and to understand more about the work, as well as “short-term research” to filter the information into a more concrete approach. These are the reasons why “Puiphai” is designated as one of the co-organizing chairmen of Architect’23 by “The Association of Siamese Architects Under Royal Patronage (ASA).”
“Space has an impact on
creative works with long hours”
Theeranuj Karnasuta Wongwaisayawan,
a representative from TIDA
It’s incredible to have a key man from Interior Architect 49 (IA49), Theeranuj Karnasuta Wongwaisayawan, as one of the co-organizing chairmen. Her 30-year experience in creating functions and interior space for buildings, houses, and other construction works ensures the grandeur of those structures.
She received her bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from Chulalongkorn University and her master’s degree from the University of Michigan. She received the William T. Carter Award, which is given to a student for excellence in Interior Design. She started her interior design career at Hobbs & Black Architects before joining Mancini Duffy. By the time she had gained sufficient knowledge and experiences, she returned to Thailand and work for A49 as a Director of Interior Design. Finally, she has become a key man of IA49 since 2008.
SCG Experience, VANA NAVA Water Park in Hua Hin, Central World, The Novotel Platinum Hotel, National Museum, and countless other King Power-affiliated businesses are all the works of IA49. Another outstanding design of IA49 is Chanintr Work, a showroom of a luxury furniture brand that has transformed a 40-year-old warehouse into a bright white office that emphasizes the realism of use. It’s one of the offices where many people wish to work.
Being appointed as one of the co-organizing chairmen by Thailand Interior Designers’ Association (TIDA) of Theeranuj, draws a lot of attention. What surprises will she have in store for the event? Please stay tuned!
“Create landscape for
the greatest benefits for communities”
Munggorn Chaijaroenmaitre, a representative from TALA
Munggorn Chaijaroenmaitre is one of two candidates for President of the Thai Association of Landscape Architects (TALA) and one of the co-founders of Ixora Design. He has a strong determination to drive landscape architecture to the next level and has a founding team with high experience from working individually in Thailand, Asia, Australia, and America.
Since Khun Munggorn founded Ixora Design in 2003, he has spent more than 20 years in a field of landscape architecture, working on a variety of horizontal and vertical projects such as residential areas, front sections of hotels and resorts, educational institutions, public areas, airports, and various recreational projects such as golf courses and amusement parks. and zoos, many of which have won national and international design awards, including the TALA Design Award, Muse Design Award, and, most recently, the German Design Award.
Throughout the journey in landscape architecture, Ixora Design has also developed a body of knowledge in sustainable design through experimental design competitions and design in collaboration with education, public and private sectors, including eco-design theory, leading to practice and upgrading the profession to participate in environmental conservation in order to balance nature and ecosystems.
These incredible works are a success proven of his experience, which has earned him a position as a representative from the Thai Association of Landscape Architects (TALA) to be one of the co-organizing chairmen of Architect’23. What are the specials in TALA’s exhibition zone? Let’s see what happens. Don’t miss it!
“Implement urban design knowledge
to develop cities”
Asst. Prof. Komgrit Thanapet,
a representative from TUDA
Asst. Prof. Komgrit is an architectural advisor and designer who has compiled all functions and responsibilities based on his extensive experience and knowledge. He is also known for transforming a policy plan from written theory to a physical city plan. He has also created public components known as “city.”
According to Asst. Prof. Komgrit, the duties of urban designers include not only designing and placing in accordance with the social context, but also listening to society’s voices, opinions, and needs. These voices must be heard in any way possible in order to design the best form of physical development suitable for everyone.
In addition to lecturing, Asst. Prof. Komgrit is a favored guest speaker on a variety of architecture-related topics. It is not an exaggeration to say that he has a thorough understanding of various bodies of knowledge.
However, Asst. Komgrit’s roles and responsibilities this year may be a little unusual, as he will shift from an urban designer to one of the co-organizing chairmen of Architect’23 as a representative of the Thai Urban Designers Association (TUDA). Perhaps he needed to take a different path once more.
“A person who is constantly armed
with new ideas”
Korakoth Kunalungkarn,
a representative from ACT
The last co-organizing chairman from Architect Council of Thailand is Khun Korakoth Kunalungkarn. She’s a cheerful executive of IA103, who is full of positive energy and charming smiles. A decorator with over 30 years of experience in interior design. She joins the team with the important role to drive this upcoming Architect Expo to its ultimate goal.
She believes in the concept of “opening eyes” in order to “make the best taste.” In the designer’s blood, open-mindedness is as essential as material selection. Every time she and her team travel to different places, she records every detail in her “ideas store.” Rather than the beauty of the building, she is more interested in the details of the materials used in its construction.
When her idea library is full of various designs, she integrates them into every work she does, including corporates, commercials, hospitals, hotels, educational institutions, residences, and any work done by her hands is full of refined designs step by step and hidden with a difficult to reach tactic.
Having her as a co-organizing chairman representing the Architect Council of Thailand (ACT), Khun Korakoth certainly brings with her a wide range of knowledge and the concept of “opening the eyes”. What are her surprises in Architect’23. Stay tuned!
