When talking about a “lift,” the first image that comes to mind is probably a rectangular room with steel walls, giving off a solid, stifling feeling. This machine will be activated when we tap a button on the front and press a floor number on the panel inside, for this labor-saving device to travel up and down to our command. At first glance, a lift is just a rectangular room with a dull and stuffy design.
But for those who happen to stumble in and are reading this article, please do not click away just yet. Because we will introduce you to lifts with non-conventional and free designs and functions, by asking all the right questions with “ARITCO”, the brand of “home lifts”, with Khun Sermsak Sripongthanakul, Managing Director of ARITCO (Thailand) Co., Ltd., who has joined us in discussing lifts, while taking on the role of a tour guide of this omotenashi-inspired showroom that welcomes you to sit back and enjoy a game of ping pong!
A home lift that can be installed in every home
Before revealing every issue with home lifts, let’s get to know the ARITCO brand through a short definition that conveys its identity.
“ARITCO is a home lift that can be installed anywhere, in every home, responding to every lifestyle and every target group,” Khun Sermsak said in a friendly manner, tempting us to wonder more about lifts.
However, since ARITCO is a home lift that can be installed anywhere, what are the strengths that ensure ARITCO is the chosen and trusted brand among customers when it comes to safe vertical travel. Khun Sermsak revealed that, “most people think of lifts as the sling system, which is quite complicated to install, the floor has to be drilled, as well as installing other structures. ARITCO’s home lifts directly tackle this issue. Our lifts can be installed anywhere, without the requirement of lift pit and does not take up much space. Our smallest lift can be installed even in a closet.”
Universal Design never overlooked by ARITCO
Lifts are another tool that drive Universal Design to become one of the standards that we should give priority to, to provide true mobility to the elderly and people with disabilities. By importing lifts from Sweden, a country that considers the principles of universal design as a top priority in the design industry, ARITCO has become one of the brands that promotes the principles of Universal Design in every part of Thai society.
The screw-driven home lift is inspired by Universal Design, which takes into account basic human rights. It is to facilitate mobility to the elderly and people with disabilities. In addition to providing comfort for users, ARITCO’s home lifts can also enhance the style of your home. The home lifts can be installed in completed buildings, in the same way as renovating the building itself. Some lift models feature modern LED lights and a personalized Design Wall. ARITCO’s home lifts can serve both in terms of functionality and home decoration.
Thai lifestyle for the principles of Universal Design
When talking about the lifestyle of Thai people, importing technology or innovation from abroad is also an issue that requires thinking about the different lifestyles of users in the originating country and the destination country. Imported home lifts from Sweden have also had their design altered to accommodate the lifestyle of Thai people.
“Our lifts are custom-made. We have architects to take care of and talk with homeowners, then we measure the area, size, height and listen to the needs of each customer. We think the fact that ARITCO lifts are flexible in design, such as having doors on three sides and customized according to user needs, is very beneficial for interior designers and the different lifestyles of clients.”
An aging society in a world that moves with sustainability
In an age where Thai society is facing an increasing elderly population, while sustainability principles are the basis of design, we therefore explore the concept behind ARITCO’s idea and home lifts to see how they view the future based on these world situations.
Khun Sermsak has well-thought out response to reveal the elevator business in a different light, “for sustainability, our innovation can satisfy the needs, especially in the issue of saving on energy. On average, we use only 50 satang of electricity per lift ride. I believe that in the future, lifts will be able to be connected to solar cells, or rather, the use of automation to make the product even more advanced.”
“When looking at the issue of the aging society, as well as people with mobility challenges, I believe that elevator innovation has created opportunities and equality for everyone in the society. Several ARITCO lifts have been installed in museums, hospitals, and department stores to accommodate people of all groups.”
What do you wish to tell users?
“All of our home lift innovations remain the same. We pay attention to every step of every design and every selection of technology to offer comfort to people of all ages and genders. What’s more is a 2-year after-sales service from the date of purchase. The service here includes 24-hour on-call, with an engineering team to give advice and take care of the products,” Khun Sermsak said.
Total Hospitality: Showroom that is more than just a display area
Before saying goodbye and meeting again at Architect’24, Khun Sermsak took us on a tour of the ARITCO showroom, designed to welcome and serve customers beyond their expectations. The space can also be called by its name inspired by the Japanese philosophy as Omotenashi, which can be roughly translated into English as Total Hospitality. The brand adheres to this idea as a guideline of customer service to create an impression from the beginning until the end of the sale and use of the product to its fullest potential.
Inside the showroom, visitors will find several amenities that invite both customers and architects, such as a beverage zone that includes coffee, sweet drinks, and alcoholic beverages. Many more meals and snacks were stockpiled to serve customers and employees. In terms of entertainment activities, the showroom has entirely allocated space for employees, both ping pong tables, football table, or even a dance practice room that can be transformed into a conference room when entering work mode at any time.
