Panel Plus: adding value to products for sustainable society at Architect’24

Nowadays, the lifestyle and needs of users vary depending on trends to meet the needs of users of all ages and to improve the quality of life. This is the core principle adhered by Panel Plus. Join us in discovering ideas that leads Panel Plus to never stop developing products to fully meet the needs of users, through an interview with Khun Boonya Sirisak, Assistant Managing Director, Panel Plus Co., Ltd.

Thirty-three years ago Panel Plus Co,. Ltd., under the Mitr Phol Group., took bagasse left over from the sugar production process and put it to good use. Because during that period, furniture options in Thailand were not as many as today, Panel Plus made use of bagasse and added a variety of options for users by making particle boards. Later, the material was changed from bagasse to rubberwood chips instead, which come from trees that can no longer produce latex. The boards were also made from as well as waste from sawmill, including wood slabs, wood scraps, or even sawdust. This is in line with the sustainability trend that Panel Plus values.

Sustainability for a good quality of life with FSC

Initially, Panel Plus wanted to take waste bagasse and turn it into wooden boards. Later, rubber wood was used instead. Another factor that boosts Panel Plus’ confidence that its wood source does not destroy natural forests is the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Such can trace back to the origin of the wood, whether it is legally grown, or even investigate the use of illegal labor. The Panel Plus brand is one of the few brands that actively supports FSC, with a total of 66,000 rai (105,600,000 Square Meters), sufficient to meet the needs of users in Thailand. In addition to verifying the origin of rubber wood, the rubber trees used for manufacturing are also the ones that had to be cut down after no latex can be produced. As for the issue of pollution, the factory has installed real-time emission control monitors, causing the emissions to be lower than that of legal limit. “It can be said that Panel Plus wants to raise the level of severity regarding emissions and control the source of rubber wood by promoting FSC, which is at the international standard level,” said Khun Boonya.

Moreover, the unwanted part of the tree like the roots can also be used to produce renewable electricity within the factory. Every part of the raw materials is used to reduce waste for a better environment and quality of life in accordance with the concept of Panel Plus.

Panel Plus aims to provide users with innovative experiences and a better quality of life through the brand’s quality products, which must not destroy the environment and does not cause any negative effects to the community, as well as newly popular trends, such as imitating genuine wood, both in the appearance and texture or protection against bacteria. Panel Plus’ goal is to improve the quality of life of users. Therefore, we give importance to health and sustainability no less than the product design.
